The Montessori Method of education was developed in Italy in the early 1900’s by Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori Philosophy embraces the whole child and their natural curiosity and love of learning. Children will reach their full potential both academically and socially when given the freedom to actively work with concrete, sequential material within a carefully prepared environment. The Montessori environment provides enough guidance to help children work towards independence and self discipline. When placed in a proper environment, children will “normalize” which means that their self-education will lead them to develop into mature members of society, always bringing with them their ardent love of learning. We at Ridgewood Montessori School take great pride in implementing Dr. Montessori’s teaching in creating classrooms that are multi-aged.
